The Eastbound terminal at the Saugatuck Train Station was witness to thousands of commuters' return home each day yet barely noticed or used. As a community interested in sustainable strategies, a committee was formed and a plan devised to literally energize the station. Using the solar generation of electricity as our leverage we were able to secure a grant to renovate the station, provide 28.8 Kw of photovoltaic cells and install charging stations for commuters, demonstrating and encouraging the use of electric vehicles.
