Gunn House

Westport

Known as the Kemper-Gunn House, this circa 1889 Queen Anne Victorian has been part of the downtown fabric of Westport for the past 130 years. Slated for demolition, it was saved by the creative energy of a community. Working with the developer and the wider community, we devised a plan to repurpose the building in a new location.

The house, in it’s new home, provided a much-needed injection of life into Elm Street. The house now offers street front shopping while subsequently screening the parking lot behind. It sets the tone for future transformation of a barren street-scape into a scenic pedestrian way.

This would ring true as we later began work on the neighboring site, 33 Elm Street, where we created a mixed-use building that can boast both residential and retail.
